Tire Care Guide

Mobile Tire Care & Roadside Guide for the Tooele Valley

Catt's Mobile Tire Repair & More is a mobile tire and light mechanical service based in Tooele, Utah. We bring a fully equipped service trailer to your driveway, your workplace parking lot, or the side of the road, so a flat tire does not turn into a tow bill and a lost afternoon. This guide covers the questions we answer most often: when a tire needs professional attention, what to do while you wait, how to tell repair from replacement, and how tires behave through a Tooele Valley winter.

When To Call A Mobile Tire Service

Not every tire problem is an emergency, but some are. Call us — or stop driving and call a tow if the vehicle is unsafe — when you notice any of the following:

  • A bulge or bubble anywhere on the sidewall — that tire is not safe to drive on.
  • A slow leak that needs air every few days, often a nail or a leaking valve stem.
  • A puncture in the tread that is still holding air but has not been properly patched.
  • A dashboard TPMS light that stays on after you have already added air.
  • Uneven or cupped wear across the tread, which points to alignment, balance, or worn suspension.
  • A shake or vibration through the steering wheel or seat at highway speed.
  • Cuts, gouges, or cords showing on the inner or outer edge of the tire.

What To Do While You Wait

Highway shoulders along I-80 and the valley roads are among the most dangerous places to change a tire. If you can reach a parking lot, driveway, or frontage road, do that first and then call us with the new location.

  1. 1Get the vehicle completely out of the travel lane if you can. On I-80 or SR-36, a shoulder is not a safe place to change a tire.
  2. 2Turn on your hazard lights, and use cones or triangles if you carry them.
  3. 3Set the parking brake and stay on the side of the vehicle away from traffic.
  4. 4Do not drive on a flat tire. A few hundred yards can destroy the wheel as well as the tire.
  5. 5Call or text with your location and a photo of the tire so we can bring the right parts the first time.

Repair Or Replace?

A puncture in the center of the tread can usually be repaired safely. The correct method is a patch-and-plug that seals the tire from the inside; a plug pushed in from the outside is a temporary fix that can work loose and leak. We repair from the inside whenever the injury allows it.

Replacement is the right call when the damage is in the sidewall or shoulder, when a puncture is too large or the cords are exposed, when a tire has been run flat and the inside is ground up, or when tread depth has reached the 2/32-inch wear bars. A tire that is more than six years old should be inspected even if the tread still looks deep, because rubber hardens and cracks with age.

Pressure, Temperature, And Salt

Tire pressure changes roughly one PSI for every ten degrees of temperature swing, which is why the TPMS light on your dashboard tends to come on during the first cold snap of the year. Under-inflated tires wear faster on the edges, run hotter, and cost you fuel. Check pressure on a cold morning rather than after a long drive, and set it to the placard inside your driver's door, not the number molded on the sidewall.

Winter in the Tooele Valley adds two more concerns: road salt that corrodes wheels and valve stems, and freeze-thaw potholes that bend rims and pinch sidewalls. If a tire starts losing air after the first storm of the season, a corroded bead seal or a bent wheel is more likely than a nail.

Beyond Tires: Light Mechanical Work

The trailer carries more than tire equipment. Alongside mounting, balancing, rotation, and flat repair, we handle brake pads and rotors, battery testing and replacement, vehicle lockouts, and light suspension and mechanical repair. If a job needs a lift or a full shop, we will tell you straight rather than take the work and hand back a half-finished vehicle. See the full service list and pricing.

How Scheduling Works

Send us your address, the vehicle, and what it is doing, and we confirm a window that fits your day. You get the price before work starts, not a surprise afterward. Most jobs are finished in a single visit because the unit arrives ready to work. Jobs outside our regular service area are still possible with an added distance fee, quoted up front — we regularly travel to Wendover, Dugway, and out along I-80.
